Product Description

Welcome to the Swamp School!

Our Functional Mitigation Design for Dam Removals training is entirely online and local. Even the field work is nearby.

Each week you will be given new presentation materials and assignments. After watching a 45-minute video presentation on a featured wetland concept, you will have 10 days to complete its related assignment. You will also have the opportunity to participate in an online class discussion with the instructor other students using our online discussion board.

The weekly workshop materials can be completed in about 3-4 hours. The course has a mid-term and final exam, and includes 8 hours of fieldwork at a wetland in your area, with guides and videos to help along the way. Students must receive a grade of 80% to pass.

This workshop covers basic wetland training, and we offer 24/7 support and call in sessions to answer your questions.

Our workshop will include a complete explanation and demonstration of the design model. We will use a real field site to collect data at an existing dam removal mitigation bank. We will compare the pre-removal data with the as-built and field data and model the overall ecologic uplift for the project.

Then it is your turn.

Go out and find a local dam, farm pond, or other man-made impoundment.

This is a very real, practical and hands-on way to learn how to use this design technique.

The workshop schedule includes three parts over 8 weeks.

  • Part 1 – Online classroom presentation and discussion on Functional Ecological Design
  • Part 2 – Virtual field trip to a real dam mitigation site for data collection and demonstration of the design model.
  • Part 3 – You will collect data and run the design model on a dam project in your local area.

Along the way you will have an opportunity to ask questions of the instructor and interact with the other students in a virtual classroom setting.

Our classes are instructor lead by one of our highly qualified team members. They help clients understand the technical and regulatory aspects of wetland rules. Our instructors share their “real-world” expertise with students so that they may gain wisdom and technical know-how. This personal support and high quality training sets The Swamp School apart and is the reason our many clients have included government enterprises, engineering firms, energy companies, regulatory organizations, educational institutions, and real estate agencies.

The class is presented in a topics format and will run for a total of 14 weeks. Students can work at their own pace and complete the course in as little as 2-weeks or progress at more relaxed 14 week speed. There is no specific time schedule when students can work on the class. Each workshop topic can be completed in about 3-4 hours. This class is offered entirely online as a virtual classroom experience. However, this is an instructor lead class and our instructors stand ready to help you with any questions or clarifications you may have.
