Product Description

Certified Wetland Delineator

Program Objectives

The main objective of the Swamp School’s Certified Wetland Delineator Program (CWD) provides a certification that identifies individuals who are highly skilled in the technical aspects of wetland delineation. This enables clients of certified delineator to make informed decisions when choosing to engage these individuals for wetland delineator services. A Certified Wetland Delineator (CWD) is able to reliably demonstrate that he or she can acutely depict areas of land that would be subject to the Clean Water Act and the Rivers and Harbors Act regulations as administered by the US Army Corps of Engineers and the US Environmental Protection Agency.

To become a Certified Wetland Delineator (CWD) you will be asked to participate in a wetland delineation methods program that will conclude with an in-person field practicum examination. The instructional portion of this program is offered online. The field exam is offered several times a year in various locations. The location of the field exam will be based in part upon the location most central to the majority of students enrolled in the program.

The class is presented in a topics format and will run for a total of 14 weeks. Students can work at their own pace and complete the course in as little as 2-weeks or progress at more relaxed 14 week speed.  There is no specific time schedule when students can work on the class.  This class is offered entirely online as a virtual classroom experience.  However, this is an instructor lead class and our instructors stand ready to help you with any questions or clarifications you may have.

A prerequisite to this class is the successful completion of each of the three wetland criteria modules. These include:

  • Wetland Botany
  • Wetland Hydrology
  • Wetland Hydric Soils

You will need to provide all three certification numbers before you will be able to start this class. Your certifications must also be in good standing.

As a Certified Wetland Delineator (CWD) you will receive a certificate and an electronic seal that can be used for reports and proposals. This certification will remain valid for 5 years and is eligible for renewal with additional continuing education.
