The Gulf Oil spill clean-up effort has been slow to get started. A number of local volunteer groups have begun with some of the non-hazardous beach clean-ups. Unfortunately, much more needs to be done.

The Swamp School has received hundreds of requests from volunteers and an environmental professionals about what is going on with the clean-up and how can services can be offered. We have been in contact with BP to let them know about the small army of wetland people that we are starting to amass. However, they are a bit focused on getting the pipe sealed off.

In an effort to provide some leadership and organization to the clean-up, the Swamp School has created a database of environmental professionals that it is going to forward to BP. The plan is to categorize the types of disciplines that would be needed along with contact information. We will then follow up with BP on a weekly basis to ensure that they have a list of environmental professionals ready to commence work.

It is anticipated that BP will be issuing RFPs for various services. It is our hope that our database will be used to solicit proposals from contractors. Due to the highly variable nature of the clean-up responses, we are encouraging innovative solutions to the marsh clean-up in addition to the standard beach cleanup approach.

If you are interested in being added to the database of interested contractors, please fill out the requested information below.
